Here the client wanted a low-maintenance
area to the front of the house after we
had extensively landscaped the rear garden.
All the flagstones are authentic Indian
stone in the Autumn Brown shade. A circle
of stone adorns the central area with the
remaining space filled with gold gravel.
This creates an attractive and modern yet
hassle-free front garden.
In this series
of photos we can see a decking/timber sleeper/patio
project. The client’s garden was on
a steep slope and in a sorry state. Access
to the rear was extremely restricted with
everything having to come through the house.
On a tight budget this limited the amount
of soil and debris that could be removed
and so we had to work with the levels in
the garden as best we could. Decking provided
a lightweight medium through which to shape
the upper part of the garden into two levels.
The upper decking
“Balcony” hides a mass of ugly
old concrete that would have been costly
to remove, this leads down to an 11ft square
deck platform which is sizeable enough for
garden furniture and perhaps a barbecue!
Below this is a series of timber sleeper
steps and retaining walls enclosing a small
Indian stone patio finished off with Staffordshire
pink gravel. It is a good example of creating
a visually stunning yet practical garden
by working around and using to advantage
the difficult dimensions and contours of
a particular space.
